On November 3rd, a 1.5-mile trail segment that links the Baltimore & Annapolis and BWI bicycle trails was renamed the John Overstreet Connector,
The segment is named after Overstreet, a Glen Burnie retiree who has dedicated thousands of hours to teaching people about bicycle safety.
Overstreet has been "Mr. Bike Safety for close to 30 years in Maryland," said David Dionne, park superintendent for Anne Arundel County trails. "We just thought it was so appropriate to name that little connector trail [in honor of] John Overstreet."
The connector begins at the end of the B&A Trail at Dorsey Road, passes through Saw Mill Creek Park and ends at the BWI Trail at Newport Road.
The JOC? That sounds pleasant! At least they didn't duplicate an existing acronym, like someone did with the Cross County Trail (CCT) in Fairfax County. XCT would've been fine but now it's easy to confuse with the Capital Crescent Trail (also CCT), not to mention the Corridor Cities Transitway.
