As City Desk mentioned, the Union Station Bicycle Transit Center design meeting I mentioned earlier has been scheduled for Dec 12th. From DDOT:
Bike Station Meeting 12/12/06
You are invited to attend a public meeting on the design of the Union Station Bicycle Transit Center (aka the Bike Station) on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in Room 1107 at One Judiciary Square (441 4th Street, NW), 11th floor, south elevator.
The Bicycle Transit Center will provide bicycle parking, rentals, repairs and accessories in a new state-of-the-art building at the west end of Union Station. The Bike Station will enhance the viability of bicycling and improve connections to other sustainable forms of transportation. We hope to have the Bike Station up and running in 2008, following the reconstruction of the roadways and landscape in front of Union Station (known as Columbus Plaza).
The design is 65% complete and we are looking for additional input on the design and operation of the facility. There will be a short presentation followed by questions and answers. Background information is available at www.ddot.dc.gov/bikeprogram
this thing looks as out of place next to the beautiful Beaux Arts style Union Station as our new metro station entrance at the Eastern Market- which looks like some kind of constipated insect from a pre-historic planet that plopped down on top of the escalators.Come up with something practical and not so darn "futuristic" that will age badly .

65% design? That means they have already decided the important stuff. I work with a lot of construction planning projects and the time to get customer input is at the 10% level - where you have a basic concept and get comment to see if it meets the basic needs. At 65%, pretty much everything is locked down, except the actual engineering and construction drawings.

If you feel strongly about this, you should come to the meeting and make sure your opinions are heard.
