If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know that one project I'd like to see built is a trail along the old Cabin John Trolley right of way from the Capital Crescent Trail to Georgetown University. For more on that go here (for the southernmost section) and go here to see a map of what the entire trail might look like.
I had planned to get working on this sooner, but the wedding got in the way. Then I was going to start it up in the spring, but the D.C. Recreational Trails program may begin a process of looking for new trail ideas this winter, so there's no time to waste.
Did you ever want to start a trail from scratch? Become a part of a grass roots effort to create a new linear park? Well now is your chance.
The kick off meeting of what may become a Friends of the Palisades Neighborhood Trail group will be held this December 1st at 11:00 am at the Starbucks in Georgetown at 3122 M Street NW. [Unless someone knows of a better meeting space]
We'll discuss the project and the group and - if weather permitting - ride the route (or as much of it as we can). You don't need to be a D.C. resident,* you just need to be interested in making a great public space. Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested in getting involved, so that I know how many people to expect. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors too.
In addition, if you have some other idea for a D.C. trail (sorry MD and VA) leave it in the comments, maybe that will be a better idea to pitch.
*if you live/work in ANC 2E or 3D or anywhere in Wards 2 or 3 and are on the fence about this I ask you to at least stop by. We're going to need locals to make this work.
dirt...
we need some dirt trails
mountain biking trails in the city
dirt commuter trails!
okay
that is unlikely
but I can dream
